A common question we are asked is whether customers are allowed to take and use their own recording tech/ gadgets on a track day or experience. The most common devices people want to take are drones and GoPro devices (as well as other action camera brands).
The answer is not a straight forward one and very much dependant on the type of event you are attending. Below is a guide to the types of events we sell and what you can and cannot do in terms of taking recording gadgets with you.
This information is only a generalisation and their may be exceptions with certain venues and suppliers. We recommend to always check first before assuming you can use your own recording equipment.
Car Track Days
Use of Drones is not permitted on a car track day
- No Circuit (that we are aware of) in the UK will allow you to fly a drone during a public event. You would have to hire the circuit privately and seek permission from the circuit owners and possibly the local council. You may also require your own public liability insurance.
Use of action cameras is possible under certain conditions
- On most car track days (but not all) the circuit marshals will allow the use of action cameras if they are securely and safely fastened to the car.
- You would need to ask permission at sign on as some of the Circuits may have copyright clauses in place.
Bike Track Days
Use of Drones is not permitted on a bike track day
- Same reason as above.

Driving Experience Events
Use of Drones is not permitted on an experience day
- Same reason as above.
Use of personal action cameras is not permitted on an experience day
- Most driving experience suppliers will have hired in professional photographers (or use their own) that provide a service where you can buy in-car photos and videos of your driving on the day. With this being a source of revenue for the supplier it is very unlikely that they would allow you to use your own recording equipment. On most events you are able to take pictures and videos from the spectator area but just never inside the vehicles.
- on many of the driving experiences we sell you can pre-purchase a 'photo pack' at a cheaper price than on the day.
